Dorli – My Idol

Hi, Love your site, LOVED Dorli. Here’s a classic story for you — this guy I was dating (and ended up marrying)

and I bravely decided to blend families and buy a house. We drove around randomly looking for houses for sale — this was in the very early days of The Worldwide Web, before elaborate listings and staged houses. Old school style, we found an open house in the neighborhood we liked. Walked in, signed the clipboard — the woman from the real estate firm took one look at my last name and said, “Ah, you must be related to the General Truscott. I served as a translator at Camp Truscott after the war.” Needless to say, we bought the house. I also stayed in touch with Dorli and attended events when I was able to. As soon as she found out that we shared a “neon gene” which means we speak up when something is not right —I was in her invitation list to all of her many groups and events. I had a difficult time keeping up with her energy level (despite being much younger than her, absolute force of nature that she was.).

Anyway … I was sad to hear of her death and in rummaging around on Le Internet found your site and wanted to share my Dorli story. ((We still live in the house!)). She truly was a force of nature and an inspiration to anyone with a brain and a heart. Heaven is being a memory to someone — her iconic image in the photo will live on, but the many many stories like mine, when lives randomly overlaps as ours did —ensure that Dorli will live on in the story of buying this house and the way she didn’t just talk the talk — she walked the walk, fearlessly and with integrity. Vive Dorli and thanks for your site. You may pass my information along to her family members if you are in contact with them.
